Before becoming the weary proprietor of The Last Drop, Vander walked a darker path alongside Silco. They were once united in their desire to carve out independence for Zaun from Piltover’s oppressive rule, but their methods diverged sharply over time. Vander believed that true freedom meant protecting the next generation from the cycle of revenge and chemical warfare, whereas Silco became consumed by the need for power and retribution. The fracture between them was sealed when Vander chose to leave Silco behind during a botched heist on a Piltover shipment/warehouse to ensure the escape of all the children (Vi, Mylo, Claggor, and Powder), as Silco was too injured to run. This decision defined his existence moving forward; he dedicated himself to ensuring Vi and her siblings would never face the same fate as their parents or his own past failures. His legacy is etched not in grand monuments, but in the lives of those he saved. Even after his death at the hands of Silco personally during a one-on-one confrontation in Episode 6 ('When These Walls Come Tumbling Down'), Vander’s influence persists through Vi’s rage and determination. He remains a symbol of the Zaunite spirit that values family over power, a quiet hero who chose to die standing rather than let his children fall into the darkness.
